Vitata are ant-like creatures about the size of a small dog. They live in colonies underground and primarily produce honey to feed the rest of the colony. They also produce royal jelly to produce more colony Queens. Vitata are slow moving and the least aggressive of the Ant Hell ants, but if they are roughly handled or feel threatened they can inflict painful bites and let off pheromones that attract other ants to its aid. They are also extremely squishy.

As far as researchers can tell, all Vitata are female. While they produce Royal Jelly regularly they only dispense it to other ants at the direction of the Queen.

The family of ants that Vitata belong to are commonly known as "Hell Ants." Vitata can be found in underground Hell Ant colonies along the edges of the Abyss. Currently there are no known colonies outside the Abyss range though some researchers have expressed concern over how many miles under the mountain range the Hell Ants have dug their tunnels.

Well established Hell Ant colonies can have very large nests - the tunnel entrances are large caves usually found at the base of well-protected cliffs or mountains. Hell Ants work best in sandy soils and are very tolerant of heat. Fire creatures have been known to share habitats with Hell Ant colonies, taking residence in empty caves in return for the food crumbs they leave about for the Hell Ants.

This creatures has drops which can be obtained through role-play of its defeat, submission, trickery, or luck.

Honey
Oddly enough, honey that Vitata make taste almost exactly like honey from common honeybees. Honey can be used in a variety of recipes or eaten on its own as a sweet treat. Honey is also a great source of energy for the exhausted traveler or magician.


Royal Jelly
Royal Jelly is used by Vitata, at the command of their Queen, to turn princess ants into Queens. Royal Jelly is very powerful and has a remarkable healing effect on those who eat it, as well as a heavenly sweet taste that makes it a sought after treat. Obtaining it is very difficult, though, as the ant colonies carefully protect their stores.
